This section is
for new e-cigarette users who have purchased their first
electronic cigarette or are looking for advice on how to get
started vaping. We have compiled a list of some things you will need
to make the transition from tobacco smoking to e-smoking.
You may also find our FAQ page
helpful.
#1: What is an electronic cigarette?
An
electronic cigarette is a battery powered device that heats
e-liquid in an atomizer or cartomizer and produces vapor.
The e-liquid (also known as e-juice or smoke juice) can
contain nicotine if desired and can be used an alternative
to cigarette smoking.
#2: Be an
informed consumer
There is plenty
of valuable information available on this website, and on
many of the E-cig Forums listed in our Links
page. There is a wide variety of choices available in
cartomizers, clearomizers and e-cigarette batteries,
something for everyone. Read, research and talk to other
e-cig users on the forums, then read some more. The
Electronic Cigarette Forum (ECF) has a large section for
Canadian vapers.
#3:
What do I
need to order to get started?
To get started, you will need
a complete
electronic cigarette starter kit
and at least one bottle of
e-juice (e-liquid).
#4:
Understand Every e-smoker is different
You will have
to do a bit of trial and error when you first start your
e-cigarette experience. There are large and small
e-cigarettes, different nicotine levels of e-juice, and all
sorts of e-juice flavors to choose from. Many people who
transition from tobacco cigarettes to e-cigarettes assume
they will prefer only tobacco flavours, but you may be
surprised to find you really enjoy menthols, even if you
hated menthol cigarettes, or another really different
flavour. Experiment with products, flavours and nicotine
levels until you find what works best for you.
Vaping is a bit
of an investment in the beginning stages, but you will save
a lot of money in the long run as your electronic cigarette
devices are rechargeable and reusable.
Taste is very subjective so we hesitate to recommend any one
particular e-liquid flavour to start with. Instead we
suggest getting one tobacco e-juice, one fruit e-juice, one
sweet e-liquid and one mint/menthol e-juice to get a feel
for which type of flavour you prefer then you can experiment
with more e-juice flavours.
#5:
Learn how to vape
Learning how to vape is relatively easy, but it does take
some time to get used to. An e-cigarette, no matter how
tiny, will always be heavier then a tobacco cigarette. It
will take you some time to get used to the e-cigarette
battery weight difference. Your body will also need to get
used to the vapor, which is different than cigarette smoke.
You will find that a longer, gentler pull from the
e-cigarette will create a more satisfying vape then a short
and aggressive pull like on a tobacco cigarette.
Transitioning to electronic cigarettes takes a bit of
getting used to but you should be vaping in no time.
#6:
Always be prepared
The worst thing you can have happen to you when
away from your house is for your e-cigarette battery to lose
power, run out of e-liquid or find that the one cartomizer
or atomizer you took out with you isn't working. Keep a good
supply of all the things you will need and when you go out,
take a few spare e-cig batteries and a bottle of e-juice
with you.
#7:
Find a network and get active
There are many e-cigarette forums that are full of helpful
people. These people all started out just like you, with
many questions and concerns. Feel free to post your
questions on the forums about specific or general electronic
cigarette batteries, cartomizers, atomizers, clearomizers
and more and connect with people who are on the road to
quitting cigarettes for good or wanting to transition to
electronic cigarettes.
Visit our Links page for links to
some of the most active e-cigarette forums online.
#8: Spend
time on YouTube
YouTube
is a great
resource for people's honest reviews on electronic cigarette
products, e-liquid (e-juice) and e-cig accessories such as
different cartomizers, clearomizers and atomizers. You will
also find many testimonials from people who have been able
to quit smoking cigarettes using e-cigarettes along with
their successes and failures.
#9: Understand the common symptoms of quitting
cigarettes
Symptoms
of tobacco withdrawal are wide-ranging, occasionally
long-lasting, and some may occur a few hours after quitting
and others may not occur for a month or more after quitting
tobacco. We recommend having a read through
this thread on the Electronic Cigarette Forum which
explains each potential symptom of cigarette cessation and
transitioning to electronic cigarettes.

on the use of electronic cigarettes.
